RESIDENTS of Chelston Township and the Chambeshi Water and Sewerage Company (CWSC) in Luwingu have agreed to combine efforts to end water blues in the area.
Speaking to the Daily Nation, Katopola ward councillor Rodrick Mulenga said the longstanding water problem in Chelston Township would soon end because the CWSC management and the residents had agreed to work on the matter together.
He said a committee had been named to oversee the works. Hesaid the company had assured the residents that with or without funding the works would start as people had waited for too long to access safe and clean drinking water.”The Chambeshi manager assured me that available local materials and resources will be used as efforts for funding of the project proved futile,” he said.
Mr Mulenga said last year during a meeting it was resolved that safe and clean drinking water was a priority in the township and that a committee that was chosen to look into this matter and pledged to donate towards this project.
He said once the works were completed, 15,000 people in Luwingu would benefit from the water supply.
“I am sincerely thankful to Chambeshi Water and Sewerage Company management for commencing the works of uprooting some unused pipes and installing new ones,” he said.
