MINISTRY of Health Permanent Secretary Jabbin Mulwanda says Government has made significant progress in ensuring that access to Sexual and Reproductive Health services are increased among women and youth.
Dr Mulwanda said Government has also enacted deliberate policies aimed at relaxing conditions that previously restricted government access to sexual reproductive and HIV services among young people.
Dr Mulwanda said government has made significant progress in realigning its health provision services to the agenda 2030.
Dr Mulwanda said this during United Nations round table discussion on sexual reproductive health and HIV conference held at the convention centre in Sandton Johannesburg, South Africa over the weekend.
He noted that government has prioritised sexual and reproductive health services by increasing its annual budgetary allocation to over 300 percent in the last 5 years.
Dr Mulwanda also said that government has since established a new department under in the ministry of Health to coordinate different sectors that were relevant to health services.
He said sexual reproductive health was cardinal as Zambia had a youthful population.
He has since called on civil society organisations to closely collaborate with Government in delivery of quality health service in the country.
“Ministry of Health has increased health promotion activities including the introduction of a sexual reproductive program among members of Parliament to ensure that legislators adequately understood sexual reproductive rights,” said Dr Mulwanda.
