GOVERNMENT has halted suspected corrupt and rampant sale of council properties across the country in the last three months..
Lusaka City Council sale of Buseko market and Matero hall have also been reversed.
Minister of Local Government, Charles Banda has directed all local authorities in the country to cease and reverse the sale or lease of any council property.
The council reportedly agreed at its last sitting to sell Buseko market.
Dr Banda has also nullified all council resolutions made in line with the sale and lease of land or any property in the last three months.
ZANIS reports that Dr Banda said this during a press briefing that any institution or individual who purchased or leased property from any council in the country in the last three months beginning 14th January 2021 should be refunded.
Dr Banda explained that in the last three months his ministry has received reports from across the country that there has been reckless sale and lease of land, open spaces as well as movable assets by local authorities.
He said the ministry will continue to ensure that Zambians have access to services in a prudent manner through the local authorities.
