By Noel Iyombwa

His approach to politics of putting the church as a number one key player in his development plan for Kanyama has continued to win him support from the residents.

This time around, Patriotic Front Parliamentary hopeful, Chris Changwereza, a staunch Catholic  was yesterday received to a thunderous reception at St Joseph Parish old Kanyama.

It was a joyous moment  as the congregants sung hymns of praises and pledged to support him in his quest of seeking to represent the people of Kanyama as their Member of Parliament.

And in addressing the church, Mr Changwereza spoke passionately about  the need for the constituency to be  developed by its own people.

Mr Changwereza said it was unfortunate that Kanyama had lagged behind in terms of development despite it having the potential of being one of the best constituencies in Lusaka being an industrial Constituency. He said with the full participation of the church in spearheading major Community projects, Kanyama would be a marvel of Lusaka.

“I am not only here to seek your support but guidance as well because I can do little as an individual but when we come together with the church on board, we can achieve a lot and change our constituency to what we want it to be,” Mr Changwereza said.

And Mr Changwereza further said challenges people in Kanyama were facing can be addressed by the residents themselves working together as a team with national leadership.  “We have people among ourselves who  are skilled to undertake many projects in the community and the only thing we have to do is to empower them with contracts and a little capital and they can deliver… That is the kind of approach I have in addressing unemployment in Kanyama.

Let us empower our own people first before empowering outsiders,” Mr Changwereza said.

Mr Changwereza said floods in Kanyama can become a thing of the past with a good plan in place…

He said the government has rolled out many empowerment schemes which however people in the Constituency have been unable to access due to lack of an effective voice.

“And that is why I am asking you to send me to parliament so that I can be your voice and represent your needs because the only thing we are lacking in Kanyama is an effective voice because the PF Government has introduced many incentives for it’s people but here in Kanyama, our people are not benefiting simply because they do not have a person to speak for them  but I am here now and I am the change that Kanyama needs,” added Mr Changwereza, amid jubilations from the congregation.

The Catholic Churches amongst other churches in Kanyama constituency are happy to have a born and bred candidate in the area.
