UPND aspiring Members of Parliament must prove their capacity to facilitate development through projects like empowering the youth and women’s clubs in communities instead of maligning the generosity of the Patriotic Front (PF).PF Chimwemwe constituency aspiring candidate Allen Banda said the UPND should not promise people “Heaven on Earth”  but demonstrate how they would turn Zambian into  a “paradise” if they were voted into power .

In an interview in Kitwe yesterday, Mr Banda said the opposition party was trying to ride on lies to convince Zambians to vote for them, but warned that such kind of campaign would not help.

More than two months ago, Mr Banda empowered Twikatane Women Club of Kamatipa with a chicken rearing project of 200 chicks, four bags of starter feed, drinkers and other assorted items worth K10, 000  He said he had lined up number of empowerment programmes for the women and youths in the  constituency before the party stopped aspiring candidates and incumbent MPs from giving put any form of support to the communities.

He said, therefore, that aspiring candidates must prove their worth in constituencies.

“They should prove they have the capacity to look after people in communities even before they can be elected MPs,” Mr Banda said.

Mr Banda said the unemployment and bad state of the economy which the opposition UPND were talking about, was not only Zambian case, but was a challenge which other countries were grappling with.

He said Zambians who travel to various countries in the World were aware of various challenges which the economies of various countries were facing

“In some countries, there is no economy to talk about.  The situations are bad. The problem in Zambia is that we like to point accusing fingers at those in Government instead of finding solutions to the problems. We also need to change our work culture and attitude,” he added.
