OPERATION MMD WELCOMES LUNGU’S WARNING AGAINST VIOLENCE

By SIMON MUNTEMBA

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu’s warning against violence is timely and reassuring, the Operation Save MMD has said.

Operation Save MMD national secretary, Raphael Nakachinda said all Zambians should support President Lungu in denouncing violence.

In an interview, Mr Nakachinda, who is also former Minister of Water Development said all criminal elements, wishing to take advantage of the election campaign period to plunge the country into chaos must take the President’s warning seriously.

“The timely warning goes to show that President Edgar Lungu is indeed equal to the task of upholding peace before, during and after the elections,” Mr Nakachinda said.

He said politicians should not, for the sake of politics and selfish motives choose to endanger the lives of many innocent Zambians.

Mr Nakachinda encouraged President Lungu to take the hard decisions in the interest of the nation.

“He is our Head of state, and any action that primarily seeks to correct these barbaric acts, he can surely count on the support of all Zambians who deserve peace, tranquility and safety from their government,” he said.

On Sunday, President Lungu warned that he was prepared to take draconian measures to protect peace if pushed against the wall.

Mr Nakachinda warned that he would be forced to invoke his constitutional powers to protect the country if political violence continues.
