UNRULY UPND CADRES WORRY AVAP

By ROGERS KALERO
Anti-Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) has expressed concern at the levels of violence and unruly behaviour exhibited by the UPND cadres in the less than two months.

Copperbelt Provincial Coordinator Poster Jumbe urged the ruling party leadership to tame their cadres before they set the country ablaze, saying he was disappointed that, in the many incidents in which UPND cadres have assaulted the police officers and members of the public, the party leadership has been quiet.

He said the silence or lack of disciplinary action on the UPND cadres assaulting police officers and ordinary citizens like the one which happened at the courts was sending a bad signal to the general citizenry of Zambia.

“As AVAP, we are not happy with the conduct of the UPND cadres who have exhibited violent and unruly behaviour even at courts of law. This unbecoming behaviour could set this country ablaze especially that the ruling party leadership has been quiet and has not taken an action on offenders.

“Zambia has always been a peaceful country and let us keep it that way. Those who are being harassed or beaten by the UPND cadres have the ability to fight back. The UPND leadership must ensure that they provide leadership at various levels ,” Mr Jumbe said.

Suspected UPND cadres on Tuesday afternoon roughed up a Kitwe City Council police officer for wearing a Patriotic Front (PF) T-shirt inside his uniform as a vest.

The unruly cadres roughed up the officer within the Civic Centre premises accusing him of being among those trying to damage the name of President Hakainde Hichilema.
