NULLIFICATIONS CHEER UPND

By Irvin Muyumba

The United Party for National Development UPND says it is happy with the judicial outcome that has seen the nullification of several seats which were won by the Patriotic Front in the August 12 elections.

UPND Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa says the nullification of the seats is a vindication of what the party said during campaigns that the PF was involved in grand corruption and bribery.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Mweetwa says the nullifications are a lesson to politicians that they cannot buy their way into office and must therefore win through free and fair elections.

He also says the UPND distances itself from PF and its surrogates insinuating that there is an underhand influencing the petition outcomes in the courts of law because such insinuations are highly misplaced.

Meanwhile, Mr Mweetwa who is also Southern Province Minister has clarified that reports insinuating the Information and Media Minister Chushi Kasanda’s husband who was contracted to distribute farming inputs to the province has failed to do so are inaccurate.

Mr Mweetwa says only two companies were contracted and had their contracts extended by the PF namely Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia and Alpha and the UPND has not contracted any new company to supply.

He says assertions on the contract alleged to have been given to the minister’s husband are malicious  because it is only the two companies contracted by the previous regime that failed to deliver inputs to Southern Province.
