50 households flooded in Mazabuka

THE continued heavy down pour in Southern Province has continued its devastation with the latest being Mazabuka where about 50 households have been flooded.

Mazabuka Mayor Vincent Lilanda confirmed that the most affected and these included Kabika and Kabobola areas, respectively.

The Mayor who was accompanied by Mazabuka District Commissioner Oliver Mulomba said this after visiting the affected areas.

And Mr. Mulomba said the drainage system needed to be worked on in affected areas and commended the local authority for their quick action in trying to address the situation.

Meanwhile, traders at Kabobola Market called on the local authority to put up a drainage system within the market to prevent the flooding that takes place every rainy season.

Ms Priscilla Chokwe a trader, said the market was currently flooded due to heavy rains.

Ms Chokwe said a structure built where part of the drainage system was meant to be had also contributed to flooding in the area.

And Ms Jane Sianga expressed concern over waste such as used diapers which found their way into the market due to flooding.

The region has recently experienced heavy downpour leaving in its tracks of destruction with the latest being Namwala District where infrastructures such as roads and bridges have been washed away. – ZANIS
