Court sets March 30 as judgement day in Mumbi Phiri case

By NATION REPORTER

THE Mongu High Court has set March 30, 2023 as judgement day in a case in which former Patriotic Front (PF) Deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri and former republican president Edgar Lungu’s barber Shabby Chilekwa have been accused of murdering a UPND member Lawrence Banda.

This follows Mongu High Court postponement of the sittings to March 23, 2023 when judgement will be delivered.

Meanwhile, all the witnesses in the murder case testified before the Mongu High Court that the former deputy secretary general of the Patriotic Front (PF) was not anywhere near the crime scene at which slain UPND cadre Lawrence Banda is believed to have been shot.

And one witness indicated that some police officers approached her and told her to implicate Chilekwa by promising her money and a job.

All the witnesses congruently testified that Phiri was in fact at church together with the then UPND candidate Tauni Chiseke and Anna Ngombo, the then PF candidate in the Kaoma by-election.
