‘State facts on Load shedding’
..as Namibia reduces dependency on Eskom and turns to Zambia
BY NATION REPORTER
IT is unfortunate that we are commencing serious load shedding schedule at home while we help our
neighbors avoid their load shedding, former cabinet minister Dr Brian Mushimba has said.
Dr Mushimba said it was unfortunate that the country was feeding its neighbors’ children while its own
were starving.
“Government please help us make sense of this before we conclude,” Dr Mushimba said.
Meanwhile Namibia has said that it has now turned to electricity imports from Zambia after reducing
dependency on South Africa’s Eskom, which is experiencing challenges resulting in Africa’s most
developed economy enduring rolling power cuts.
Nampower Managing Director Kahenge Haulofu indicated that the dependency on energy from Eskom
reduced over the past year as in the last round of import contract negotiations with Eskom.
It indicated that it had increased its supply option from Zambia, who had access to additional excess
energy due to the completion of one of its major projects related to the Kafue Gorge Hydroelectricity
Station.
