ChildFund donates bicycles in Luangwa for peer educators

CHILDFUND Zambia has donated 29 bicycles to support youth development programmes peer educators involved in disseminating information on sexual and reproductive health in Luangwa.

Speaking at the donation, Luangwa District Commissioner Luke Chikani said Government would continue to provide adequate resources to facilitate availability of essential infrastructure, transport, and equipment to support youth development programmes.

Mr Chikani paid special tribute to ChildFund working together with Luangwa Child Development Agency for donating 29 bicycles for peer educators. 

He said the bicycles would go a long way in strengthening the activities conducted by young people that were involved in providing mobile youth friendly services that enable young people to make healthy behaviours.

“May I take this opportunity to thank Luangwa Child Development Agency working with ChildFund for partnering with the government to support our young people with bicycles. These will greatly help to improve service delivery as these young people will now be able to move into distant villages to educate others on various issues affecting their lives,” he said.

 Mr. Chikani said the programme by Luangwa Child Development Agency were in line with the government’s transformation agenda under President of Hakainde Hichilema.

“Investment in education and skills development is one of the key focus areas of the 8th National Development Plan and is fundamental to inclusive development,” he said. 

Mr Chikani said the 8th National Development Plan seeks to ensure that life relevant knowledge and skills were provided to young people in promoting the application of National Values and Principles.
