Two perish in Mwense RTA

TWO traders in Mwense district of Luapula province have died on the spot, while five others are nursing serious injuries after the vehicle they were traveling in Hino Ranger light truck lost control due to excessive speed and hit a road hump before hitting a shop pillar.

Luapula Province Police Commissioner Police Fwambo Siame said the accident,  which involved a Hino Ranger light truck registration number ASB 2255 , happened on Sunday around 20:40 hours about 18 kilometers south of Mwense district.

Mr Siame said the truck, which was being driven by Titus Nkomanga aged 39, had 25 traders on top of the goods who were going to conduct an open market popularly known as Munanda.

“The accident happened when the driver due to excessive speed lost control after hitting a road hump and in the process went off the road and hit a shop pillar.

“Due to the impact, two passenger’s sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot while five others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital.’’ Mr Siame said

He identified the two victims as Given Chishimba 41 and Dennis Chileshe 36 both of Mansa district.

Mr Siame named the injured as Isaac Chibwe 19,Emmanuel Kazembe 20,Joseph Kalembwe 32, Danford Mudenda 24 and Fackson Songwe 43.

He said the five were admitted at Mambilima hospital while the driver had been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving and was detained in police custody.
