Heed set guidelines, contractors told

CONTRACTORS in the construction industry have been advised to stick to stipulated guidelines on measuring equipment to ensure the best works were done.

Zambia Metrology Agency (ZMA) public relations Officer Chola Chilumba says the agency has been receiving numerous complaints from the public on how some contractors are using wrong measurements.

Mr Chilumba said the construction sector was critical to the development of the country hence the need for key players to abide by set guidelines in ascertaining the works of contractors.

Speaking on Millennium TV programme dubbed “Business Day” Mr Chilumba said the agency was engaging constructors to create awareness on the importance of using correct measurements in the sector.

He said the agency would ensure that contractor’s did the right thing by ensuring that their measuring equiptment were well calibrated to avoid certifying unqualified works.for the betterment of the country.

Mr Chilumba says if the matter is left unchecked, the sector will collapse.

“Our mandate is to ensure that players adhere to the set guidelines. Doing so will enable the country to receive the much needed development,” he said.
