Traditional leader hails flying doctors

By ROGERS KALERO in Nakonde

CHIEFTAINESS Waitwika of the Namwanga people in Nakonde has said the Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) is playing a vital role in supplementing Government’s efforts of taking health care service to remote areas where people are in dire need of quality health care service delivery.

Chieftainess Waitwika said the ability of the ZFDS to reach far flung areas and provide health care was a clear indication of its commitment to improve people’s lives in various parts of the country.

She was speaking yesterday when the ZFDS Nakonde outreach team led by Bridget Zulu paid a courtesy call at her palace before carrying various operations at Kantongo Rural Health Centre.

“We are grateful for the work you are doing, even last time you came here in September, you did a good job. You deserve to be supported for the works you are doing. You are following people in far flung areas to provide free health services. This is a good job you are doing because people in remote rural areas cannot afford quality health services which you are taking to them,” Chieftainess Waitwika said.

And Nakonde ZFDS Outreach Programme Team leader Bridget Zulu said her team was in Nakonde to work on cataract, dental, general screening, and pharmacy and also offer eye services in urban and remote rural areas.

Dr Zulu said her team was in the district to provide primary health care and other health services as per mandate of delivering health care to remote rural areas and supplementing government”s efforts.
