‘It’s an honour being in AFCON squad –  Musonda

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

TANZANIA-BASED Chipolopolo striker Kennedy Musonda says being selected in the final 27-member squad that will represent the country at the Ivory Coast AFCON is a dream come true.

The former Green Eagles and Power Dynamos striker who now features for Young Africans FC said he was ready to represent the country diligently after making the final 27-member squad that will compete in Group F alongside Morocco, Tanzania and Congo DR.

“It is an honour to be part of the team. It is something you just dream of when you are a kid and to finally make it is something I can’t explain. Its humbling,” Musonda said.

“The local camp experience was good, so much quality in the squad even the players who didn’t make it, it was nerve wreaking when they were putting up the board just to hear the names of who was going to the AFCON and who wasn’t. It was a good experience it was a good camp. I was optimistic, it was a surprise yes but I think I was ready and prepared and it feels good to be part of the squad,” Musonda said.

Asked about the possibilities of him playing a game at the AFCON, Msonda said; “I’m ready for anything. We have a good squad and when it comes to playing, we just leave everything in the coach’s hands because he is the one who is going to analyse who can play better at one time and for me I’m ready for anything.”

Musonda is hopeful that the international camp in Saudi Arabia will help the Chipolopolo boys to understand their strengths and weaknesses as they prepare for the AFCON.

He said the AFCON is not about names and the team that wants it more will win it.

“The AFCON is not about names like it used to be in the past, it’s all about who has a bigger heart and more passion, more desire to win. If and when we put in more desire, I don’t think names really matter. We also have good players in the squad. The most important thing is our desire, our passion and working together as a team,” he said.

Musonda encouraged fans to rally behind the Chipolopolo and give them the extra push needed to make the country proud at the AFCON which will run from January 13 to February 11.
