By GRACE CHAILE

ESPIONAGE accused Sedrick Kasanda has filed a petition at the Lusaka High Court, challenging the seizure of his properties by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).

The petition which is under lock and key, with journalists denied access to the docu- ments was filed on Wednesday in the High Court principal registry.

However, the matter has been transferred to the Eco- nomic and Financial Crimes Division-High Court.

Based on scanty details gathered, Kasanda was con- testing the seizure of his prop- erties which includes his Ibex Hill house. The businessman and goldsmith contended the Kasanda decision by DEC to seize his properties was illegal and un- constitutional.

He is also claiming damag- es for the suffering his family have endured due to the ac- tion by the law enforcement agency. Kasanda, who is on consti- tutional bail is jointly charged with four others for espionage in connection to the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport gold scandal last August.

Proceedings in the said matter have been held in cam- era with the State claiming that there was sensitive evi- dence that could jeopardise the safety of the country.
