ZESCO shock pensioners

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

ZESCO United opened a four points lead after completing a double over Pensioners NAPSA Stars following a 1-0 beating in a Week-18 FAZ Super League fixture at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

A second half lone goal from striker John Chingandu guaranteed the win for the Ndola giants to complete a double over NAPSA Stars having beaten them 1-0 in a Week-1 fixture which was played in Lusaka.

The win over NAPSA propelled the Ndola giants to 36 points, four points ahead of second placed Red Arrows who defeated Nkana 1-0 on Saturday.

Despite ZESCO having maintained their dominance of the domestic league, ZESCO Uniteds assistant gaffer Tennant Chilumba says the Ndola giants still have work to do to get better and win the league.

“We are still not ok. We have opened up the league with four points but for me we are not ok. We just have to continue working hard and we will see where the good form will take us,” Chilumba said.

For NAPSA Stars coach Perry Mutapa said his boys were unfortunate as they failed to put the goal behind the net despite having played well.

Despite seating in the relegation zone on the log Mutapa is confident that NAPSA Stars will not be relegated as they seek to beef up during the transfer window.

He said seating on 15th on the log with 19 points collected from four wins, seven draws and seven defeats is not a true reflection of how NAPSA Stars have played this season.

“We are going to come out of the relegation zone because today you could see that we gave ZESCO United a run for their money. They were just threatening us on transition if we had buried the chances we had in the first half it could have been a deferent ball game,” Mutapa said.

NAPSA Stars will now seek redemption when they host Green Buffaloes next weekend in another intriguing match which promises sparks.
