Timber traders bemoan shortage of pinewood

By MILLENNIUM REPORTER

TIMBER Association of Zambia president Charles Masange has raised concerns over the shortage of pinewood trees which he fears would lead to deforestation because most people have resorted to cutting other indigenous trees like Mupundu.

Mr Masange said people who have resorted to cutting other indigenous trees like Mupundu which is a fruit tree are likely to be jailed because act number 4 of 2015 does not allow anyone to cut any fruit tree for timber

He has also advised people interested in buying timber to first consult the forest department and be provided a list of trees to buy.
