Mbala businessman shot dead by unknown people

ZANIS – A prominent businessman has been shot dead by unknown people at his residence in Mbala district of Northern Province.

58 year-old Keleyard Simpemba died on the spot after he was shot in the head.

Northern Province Police Commanding Officer, Lucky Munkhondya, has confirmed the incident to ZANIS in an interview.

Ms Munkondya said Mr Simpemba of Little Poland area and proprietor of Mwandwizi Lodge in Mbala was shot at in the car park shortly after parking.

“Mr Simpemba was shot after he parked his car at a car park,” she said.

Mrs Munkhondya said the incident happened around 19:50 hours on Tuesday 7th May 2024.

The Police Commanding Officer explained that the incident was reported to the police in Mbala by Christopher Simpemba, the deceased’s son.

Ms Munkhodya said police found the body of the deceased lying in the pool of blood facing down while holding car keys.

Mrs Munkhodya said the body of the deceased has since been deposited in Mbala General Hospital Mortuary, awaiting a postmortem.

The suspected killers who escaped thereafter did not get anything from the car after the incident.
