Kateka reports police to Human Rights Commission

CHISHALA Kateka has written to the Human Rights Commission (HRC) to investigate the police for denying the New Heritage Party to hold a rally in Lusaka’s Mandevu Township on June 1, 2024.

Ms Kateka had informed police of the party’s intention to hold a public rally.

But the Zambia Police have denied the New Heritage Party permission to hold the rally citing security reasons as usual. Since the ascension of the UPND to power, police have denied opposition political parties to hold rallies citing security reasons.

Ms Kateka said the New Heritage Party wanted the human rights body to hold the police command accountable for their actions, including through referral to a competent tribunal if necessary CLICK TO READ MORE
