PATRIOTIC Front (PF) secretary general, Raphael Nakacinda was yesterday released from prison after he was granted bail pending appeal in the sum of K80, 000 in his own recognizance with two working sureties.
Nakacinda has spent 12 days in the Lusaka central prisons and remains in custody until he meets the bail conditions.
Magistrate Irene Wishimanga on May 17, 2024 convicted and sentenced Nakacinda to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour for defaming President Hakainde Hichilema.
Earlier, Nakacinda had filed a notice of appeal in the Lusaka Magistrate Court stating that he was dissatisfied over the judgement delivered by the magistrate.
Nakacinda in an affidavit in support of summons for bail pending appeal said the trial court erred in both law and fact by concluding that he did not legitimately criticise the President contrary to the evidence. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE
