SADC sends ‘SoS’ over food shortage

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says the SADC Heads of State have launched the SADC appeal on food shortage due to the El Niño-induced drought affecting the whole region.

This came to light yesterday during the virtual extraordinary summit of the SADC heads of State and Government, which was chaired by SADC Chairman, Angola’s President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço.

Mr Hichilema said the SADC leaders acknowledged that the impact of the debilitating drought on food and energy security in the SADC region cannot be overstated.
