Court sends man to six months detention for stealing Zesco property

THE Lusaka Subordinate court has convicted and sentenced Clement Changa Changa of Lusaka to six months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing earthing wire, property of ZESCO Limited.

And according to ZESCO Spokesperson, Mr Matongo Maumbi, the conviction which was secured on May 31, 2024, marked a significant victory in the Corporation’s relentless efforts to combat theft and vandalism.  Mr Maumbi said in a statement that the conviction highlights the effectiveness of the Security Services which conducted numerous activities throughout and aimed at reducing vandalism, theft, fraud, corruption and motor vehicle abuse.  “These efforts resulted in the recovery of property valued at K235,264.25 and the recording of 14 arrests and 2 convictions. The week just ended saw a total of 51 cases, resulting in property losses valued at K1,098,839,’’ he said.
