MPs express different expectations as Parley opens today

By Nation Reporter

AS PARLIAMENT resumes sitting today after being on recess from March 28, 2024, Members have high expectations on law making and the administration of the House.

Mutotwe Kafwaya, the PF Lunte MP said he looks forward to how the new Standing Orders will be implemented because legislators unanimously rejected them.

“We rejected the 2024 Standing Orders but they were imposed on us. I don’t know the wisdom in imposing them on us. Parliament is the People’s House and not for presiding officers. It is us that people vote for. I also look forward to seeing how the new Justice Minister Princess Kasune will defend bills,” Mr Kafwaya said.

He said he had also noticed that President Hakainde Hichilema had a lot of interest in seeing that Parliament enacted laws because Cabinet had approved them but it should not be the case.
