THE UPND leadership will not achieve anything by issuing press statements aimed at sowing seeds of disunity and inciting Zambians against the duly elected government of President Edgar Lungu, patron of marketeers and vendors Chanda Kabwe has said.

Mr Kabwe said it was sad that the UPND leadership had refused to accept defeat in the August 11 elections and had remained bitter to the extent of declaring that there shall never be any form of reconciliation and forgiveness between the UPND and the Patriotic Front.

The Kitwe district commissioner was reacting to the statement by UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma that there shall never be any form of reconciliation and forgiveness between the UPND and the ruling PF and the two political parties shall forever remain diametrically and politically opposed to each other.

Mr Kakoma also vowed that his party would not attend any State function, claiming that the governing party was victimizing its leaders and members who were being arrested and detained for offences they did not commit.

Reacting to Mr Kakoma’s sentiments, Mr Kabwe said the UPND leadership was issuing statements aimed at sowing seeds of disunity in the country because it was still bitter over its loss in the August 11 elections.

“We are saddened that the UPND leadership is still bitter over its loss in the August elections because their bitterness has made them to start issuing statements that aim at promoting disunity in the country, but we are not worried because the more they issue such statements, the more the people know what kind of leadership is UPND.

“The statements issued by Mr Kakoma are not a reflection of the UPND membership and supporters, but that of Mr Kakoma and some of his few colleagues in the UPND leadership. Am saying this because some of the UPND members attended Tuesday’s National Day of Prayers,” he said

Mr Kabwe said he was happy that some UPND members and supporters attended the National Day of Prayers in Kitwe.

He advised UPND members and Zambians in general to ignore statements from the UPND leadership which were aimed at causing confusion in the country.

“My advice to the UPND members and Zambians in general is that they should ignore statements from the UPND leaders who want to cause confusion in the country. They are disgruntled individuals who want to bring disunity in the country,” he said.
