HIGH literacy levels have contributed to change of mindset in care and maintenance of public property in Matero and surrounding areas, some residents have observed.
This followed the recent infrastructure developments which have taken place in the area since the coming to power of the PF Government.
Jerald Mutale, a retired teacher who has lived in the areas for over 25 years said high levels of vandalism was as a result of lack of exposure but the scenario was changing with so many people achieving some levels of education.
“We were worried that these new street lights will be vandalized and destroyed by the locals, but it is not the case,
“Our people are now educated and understand that public property belongs to them, the public and should be looked after well with care,” Mr Mutale said.
He explained that previously, people had a negative concept about public property which they assumed belonged to the president and it did not have anything to do with them.
There has been massive infrastructure development in Matero with the upgrading of Chingwere Referral Health Centre into the Matero Level 1 Hospital, the construction of an improved road system with a dual carriage way, including tarred inner roads with street lights, as well as the soon to be completed Matero Shopping Mall housing such famous stores as Choppies, Hungry Lion and other famous up-class brands within the township.
