By MICHAEL MIYOBA

FORMER Zambia national soccer team coach, Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic says he will remain an ambassador of the Zambian game despite the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) having terminated his contact after the country’s poor performance at the Cosafa senior championships in South Africa.

In his farewell massage after he was fired by FAZ, “Micho” said he would maintain the good relationship he created with a lot of Zambians during his 18-month stay in the country.

“Micho” said that while working with second assistant coach Osward Mutapa, the Chipolopolo technical bench managed to give its best and succeeded to building a team that can compete in the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifiers.

“We have tried under sleepless nights and hardworking days to give the best. It was a difficult period during the Covid-19 pandemic, to work with so many challenges, I believe in the process of giving the best, we succeeded in building a team to go in the qualifiers.

“To the next coach, I will be a constant supporter of the Zambian game and I wish Zambia all the best in future endeavours,” said “Micho.”

“I’m very thankful for all the positive experiences I got from Zambians,” he added.

Meanwhile, “Micho” has hailed FAZ president Andrew Kamanga and his executive for giving him the chance to lead Chipolopolo from February last year.

“Micho” noted that he would use the positives from the period he led the Chipolopolo as head gaffer to succeed in his future assignments.

His record as Chipolopolo coach saw him win 11 games, drew seven and lost seven games from 25 games he guided the squad.

‘Micho’s last two defeats to Lesotho and eSwatini at the 2021 Cosafa tournament in South Africa triggered his dismissal as it was the first time Zambia was stunned by both Lesotho and eSwatini in the history of the Cosafa.
