A GANG of suspected UPND cadres on Monday pounced on Patriotic Front (PF) Chimwemwe constituency youth Chairman Bernard Ngoma at his house in Chimwemwe township in Kitwe and abducted him, accusing him of being among those who were puling down the UPND campaign posters during election campaigns.
The UPND cadres bundled Mr Ngoma in a black Noah and took him to Mindolo Police Station , but some officers at the police station, said they had not received any report or had any docket where a PF cadre had pulled down a UPND campaign posters in Chimwemwe constituency. However, the UPND cadres insisted that a charge be found for Mr Ngoma to sleep in police cells and for the sake of peace, Mr Ngoma slept at the police station and was later released on Tuesday.
After being released from Police custody on Tuesday, Mr Ngoma said he was grateful to the PF cadres who showed solidarity when UPND cadres took him to Mindolo Police Station for an offence he did not commit. Mr Ngoma urged the PF cadres to remain united and strong because the UPND has nothing to offer, apart from dividing the country and harassing opposition members and its leadership.
“Good evening ba Chimwemwe I’m blessed to have a family like you and I thank you for your support those that came at Mindolo police and those that made efforts to call me, I’ve seen the unity in the PF. Let us keep up the good spirit,’’ Mr Ngoma said. Mr Ngoma also said the path taken by the UPND to dent the image of the PF and put up all sorts of schemes to kill the former ruling party may back fire on the ruling party if not handled properly because Zambians were not interested in political mudslinging, but were waiting to see how the ‘New Dawn’ government will deliver its campaign promises.
Mr Ngoma said , while the PF government was flexible and was concentrating on alleviating poverty and hunger, the UPND was concentrating on witch[1]hunting and retribution which may anger a lot of people. “These people formed government not to serve Zambians, but to fix their perceived enemies. Cadres and some law enforcement officers are being set on former government and PF officials to settle personal scores. “They are using the fight against corruption to do witch-hunt and retribution. It is a matter of time. Zambians are watching. As PF, we will be vindicated,’’ he said.
