Dear editor,
ZAMBIAN Engineers, Scientists, Architects, other Specialized Fields and the general Public should urgently take the front role to help attain some of the ambitious presidential pronouncements such as the K25.7 million Constituency Development Fund (CDF) contained in the UPND 2022 National Budget.
In 1961, President of the United State of America John Fitzgerald Kennedy set the challenge of landing a man on the Moon before the end of the decade in his “Special Message to the Congress on “Urgent National Needs.” At the time, the Soviet Union had a commanding lead in space flight.
It’s only appropriate that Zambian Engineers, Scientists, Architects, other Specialized Fields and the general public respond to “Urgent National Needs” to help improve people’s livelihood and transform the economy as presented in the UPND 2022 national budget.
On September 12, 1962, in his now-iconic speech at Rice University, the late 35th US President, John F. Kennedy proclaimed:
“We choose to go to the moon in this decade, and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard — because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills — because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win.”
On July 20, 1969, President Kennedy’s vision was fulfilled when Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin became the first men to land a manned spacecraft on the Moon and walk on the Moon. The success of this mission marked not only an accomplishment for America, but also for humanity in the exploration of space and our understanding of Earth’s largest satellite — the Moon!
President Hakainde Hichilema is calling upon, we, the people of Zambia to bring to the table the best of our energies and skills to actualize the 2022 National Budget presented to parliament on 29 October 2021 by Finance Minister, Situmbeko Musokotwane MP as a bearer of the message from His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zambia.
The Zambian economy needs green jobs, innovations and other technical expertise, therefore all key stakeholders must bring the best of their energies and skills to the national developmental table.
The call for Engineers, Scientists, Architects, other Specialized Fields as well as the general public must put their heads together to achieve the much needed social and economic transformation.
