MAN FINED FOR ASSAULT

THE Choma magistrate court has fined a man K500 for being found guilty of assault occassioning actual bodily harm contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Facts before court were that Elias Funsani aged 38 of Sikalongo Settlement in Choma did assault Ignitius Shankoti.
It is alleged that on November 29, 2021 the accused asked the complainant to help him skin a cow and sell the meat.
After the Shankoti requested for the payment, Funsani refused to give him and said he had already been paid through giving him the neck of the cow.
The complainant then insisted on getting the payment and it was then that Funsanipunched him and injured him in the eye.
Magistrate Kanunka found the accused guilty on his own admission and convicted him.
When asked why he committed the offence Funsani said the complainant had taken some of the meat.
And in his mitigation, Funsani asked for lenience saying he was looking after three children as the mother to the children died.
Magistrate Kanunka considered his mitigation and that he was a first time offender but could not go scot free.
She added that the accused needed to learn that crime does not pay and ordered that he pays K500 fine or face six months simple imprisonment.
