THE $1.4 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout package will require a strategic and timely plan that will compel the institution to grant relief, former Finance Minister Ng’andu Magande has said.
Mr Magande said it is important to understand that multilateral lending institutions have undergone thorough changes looking at the fundamentals that guide the conduct of businesses now.
He said it was for this reason that the country needed to base its strategy in line with the IMF fundamentals if the country was to get the ratification, which was key to supporting the economy.
Mr Magande said getting on the IMF programme remained the only hope to support the current budget; hence the need to ensure every hard decision was made to clinch the deal.
