DPP to decide if Lusambo case to be heard in FIC

Bowman Lusambo has to wait for Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to decide whether his matter will be prosecuted under the New Financial Crimes Court.

The Lusaka Magistrate Court has set March 9, 2022 for an instruction from DPP to prosecute the case of Lusambo in a matter in which he is charged with five counts of corrupt practices.

 Lusambo 45, of Chamba Valley yesterday appeared before magistrate Faides Hamaundu but did not take a plea.

Ms Hamaundu is one of the magistrates selected to try cases under the new Financial Crimes Fast Track Court.

Lusambo in count one is charged with corrupt acquisition of public property contrary to section 34(1)(a) as read with section 41 of Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.

In count two, on dates unknown  but between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2018 at Masaiti did unlawfully acquire certificate of title in respect of stand number MASAI/LN-1003028/218 in your name thereby obtaining an exemption from paying the sum of K250, 000 plot/premium land which property was later conveyed to MBACHI NKWAZI at a consideration of K150, 000 on act prejudicial to the rights and interest of Masaiti Co Council.

Details in count three are that between 1 September 1, 2021 and October 31, 2021 at Chongwe with another person did conceal property number HN 248 situate at Silverest Gardens valued at $60, 000 in the names of Nancy Natasha Manase property reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime.

Count four on dates uknown but between  September 1, 2021 and October 31, 2021 at Chongwe with another person did conceal property number HN 282 situate at Silverest Gardens valued at $128, 000 in the names of Nancy Natasha Manase property reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime.
