ZBF hails Olympics-bound boxers

THE Zambia Boxing Federation has hailed three boxers who represented Zambia at the Tokyo Olympics qualifiers boxing championship in Dakar Senegal for coming back home with medals and qualifying for the Olympic Games.
Featherweight Zambian boxer Evaristo Mulenga scooped gold at the 2020 African Boxing Olympic qualifiers after beating Nick Okoth from Kenya.
Meanwhile, Welterweight Zambian boxer Steven Zimba missed out on gold and settled for Silver after he lost the final to Cameroon’s Megue Ayisis Albert who walked away with Gold.
Another Zambian Flyweight Patrick Chinyemba earlier settled for silver at the African Boxing Championship after losing to Algerian Mohamed Flissi in a tightly contested final.
The performance by the boxers in Senegal excited ZBF president Kennedy Mubita who described the young boxers as national heroes.
Mubita said the boxers who arrived in Zambia yesterday had made the country proud because of their hard work and ZBF’s commitment to improve the sport in Zambia.
He urged the boxers to remain focused as they begin preparations for the Olympic Games set to kick off on July 24 in Tokyo Japan.
Mubita appealed to the corporate world to help the federation with resources to be used by the boxers when they are camped in readiness for the Olympic Games.
Meanwhile ZBF secretary Bright Chomba encouraged the boxers to work extra hard as they prepare for the Olympic Games which will be tougher than the qualifiers.
