Illegal developers to get double punishment

Illegal developers to get double punishment
By MUYANI SHINJABALE
THE Ndola City Council will not just end at demolishing illegal structures but it will also take the illegal developers to court, Mayor Amon Chisenga has declared.
Mr Chisenga said the local authority would not stop demolishing illegal structures and would in addition to developers to court in order to effective curb the vice.
Some illegal structures have sprouted in Mitengo new the imposing New Apostolic Church and around a stream.
Mr Chisenga insisted that a number of structures in Mitengo constructed along the Tusenshi stream, which flows from Chifubu down to Ndola-Mufulira road.
He cited a property, whose developer had extended a perimeter fence up to the stream, disturbing the ecological formation.
The Mayor said the developer had been summoned to appear at the council and failure to do so would result in having the structure demolished.
He said the local authority would allow anyone to build without getting the necessary legal documents.
Mr Chisenga, therefore, appealed to all developers to desist from illegal acts and follow the right channel.
And Town Clerk, Wisdom Bwalya, said the local authority would demolish all illegal structures stating that engaging people on the wrong things over and over again was not helping the local authority in curbing the vice.
Mr Bwalya also expressed concern that some members of the public had resorted to drinking alcohol from shebeens and cars despite the massive sensitisations about corona virus.
He said the local authority needed the support of everyone to curb the spread of virus and would work hand in hand with the State Police to enforce the laid down regulations.
