HH LYING – POLICE
By IRVIN MUYUMBWA
THE Zambia Police Service high command has distanced itself from claims by United Party for National Development UPND president Hakainde Hichilema that heavily armed police raided his in-laws’ homes in Shibuyunji in search of imaginary weapons.
Lusaka Province Commissioner of Police Luckson Sakala wondered which police could have raided the homes to Mr Hichilema’s in-laws in Shibuyunji because no instruction was issued for such an operation.
When queried on the matter as reported by Mr Hichilema on his Facebook page, Mr Sakala said he did not have the operation as claimed by the UPND leader.
“Where did those police officers come from? Yes, Shibunyunji is in my province but I’m not aware and I never had that operation,” Mr Sakala said.
On Friday, Mr Hichilema posted pictures of police officers in some village where he claimed that a battalion of heavily armed police went to raid his in-laws’ homes in Shibuyunji in search of imaginary weapons.
And when contacted, UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma declined to comment saying he was no longer serving in that capacity as all positions were declared vacant after the general assembly last week.
Meanwhile, UPND presidential spokesperson Anthony Bwalya could not immediately comment on the matter as he was on the road travelling to Lusaka but promised to get back. But he never did.
