TWO people have died in a road accident in Nakonde after a Miracle Express bus hit into a stationary truck in the early hours of yesterday, says Road Transport and Safety Agency head public relations Frederick Mubanga.

Mr. Mubanga said, the accident involving a bus registration number ALK 8885 with 26
passengers on board driven by Bernard Chimba who died on the spot collided with  a Tanzanian goods truck registration number T437 Ilendela about six kilometers from the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) barrier near Nakonde District.

In a statement to Daily Nation, Mr Mubanga said the Tanzanian driver of the truck who died 30 minutes after the crash has not yet been identified.

The truck was reported to have developed a mechanical fault and was not properly secured on the road and caused an obstruction resulting in the accident.

Mr Mubanga further said that heavy rains also caused poor visibility on the part of the bus driver which led the vehicle hitting into the parked truck.

“Occupants of the bus and a passenger in the truck who sustained injuries are admitted at Nakonde district hospital,” he said

He has however, cautioned motorists to exercise patience and observe all road traffic regulations and laws during and after the festive season.
