UPND WON’T TOUCH STATE COFFERS, SAYS HH

By ADRIAN MWANZA

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has said that he will not let the UPND’s activities ride on public coffers by ensuring that it is self-sustaining.

Mr Hichilema said he would not let any party activity depend on the central government as this had serious consequences in the past.

He was speaking during the meet the president fundraising dinner at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka last night.

President Hichilema said the party had been self-sustaining for a long time and that there was no need to change now that they were in power.

Mr Hichilema said that his government would walk that path for the sake of serving the people.

“I will ensure that the party activities were separate from the government and there will be no influence from the UPND on the government,” he said.

Mr Hichilema said that this move will ensure that Zambians did not lose money due to the fact that the central government was sponsoring the operations of the party.

He said other parties in the past were doing this and it had a huge toll on the central government as huge amounts were channeled to party activities.

“The country was almost destroyed because some parties could not distinguish between party activities and used to fund their activities using public resources,” President Hichilema said
