THE Chililabombwe Municipal Council (CMC) has secured 5.4 hectares of land where trucks will be parked to reduce congestion at Kasumbalesa border post,” public relations manager Chilufya Chileshe has said.

Ms Chileshe said the idea to secure land was not only to reduce congestion at Kasumbalesa border Post, but also help to decongest the Central Business District (CBD) where many trucks were parking due to lack of space.

“As you are aware, there are plenty of trucks moving to Kasumbalesa border Post and so we have been having congestion.

“So, in an effort, to reduce congestion at the border and in the CBD, the local authority decided to secure 5.4 hectares of land where trucks will be parked,” Ms Chileshe said.

Ms Chileshe said the local authority had since written a request to the Public Private Partnership unit to allow the local authority partner with any local or foreign investor in ensuring that the project was successful.

“Our aim is to work with either a foreign or local investor in this project to make it successful. This is why we have requested for any investor to come on board and assist the council in this truck stop project,” She said.

She said the distance from the CBD to the border post was 11.5 kilometers while that of the CBD to the truck stop was 3.5 kilometers.

“Some of the proposed facilities that would be at the truck stop once the project was completed, office block, bar and restaurant ,ablution block ,fire station and sleeping quarters ,’’she said.
