I AM humbled for placing your confidence in my leadership qualities and I promise you that I will not let you down, but that together, we will steer the party to greater heights, says NAREP president Elias Chipimo.

In his acceptance speech yesterday, Mr Chipimo, who polled 65 votes against Grace Gondwe at 19 votes, said that he was overwhelmed with the confidence placed in his leadership qualities and vowed not to let his party members down but that he would steer the party with a new vigour to greater heights by providing checks and balances to the Government and service to the people.

He said that NAREP might look small today but warned all the major political parties not to undermine or belittle it, explaining that doing so would be at their own peril as the 2021 general elections results would speak for themselves.

‘‘I am humbled for re-electing me, this signifies the confidence you have in my leadership qualities and I promise you that I will not let you down but will steer the party to greater heights even as we prepare for the 2021 general elections,’’ he said.

And in conceding defeat Grace Gondwe, congratulated Mr Chipimo and said that she was not discouraged with her loss but would try at another opportune time.

Ms Gondwe, who is NAREP national women chairperson, implored the womenfolk to contest leadership positions.

Others elected to the National Executive Committee are vice-president for administration Charles Maboshe, vice-president for politics Henry Mwelwa, chairperson information and publicity Bwalya Nondo, national chairperson Jimmy Mubambwe and chairperson mobilisation Ken Mazakala.

Also elected are chairperson religious affairs Maston Zimba, chairperson chiefs and traditional affairs Lazarus Kapambwe and chairman for elections Bernard Mwila.

The positions for the youths and chairperson would have their own convention in their respective areas.

NAREP party members also adopted the party constitution.

The agenda of the convention which run from December 9th to 11th was to elect NEC members, and mobilise for the 2021 general elections.
