THE National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ)  has commended  First Lady  Esther Lungu for her passionate support for girl child education in the country.

NAQEZ executive director Aaron Chansa said the first lady’s  personal campaign for girls and women to receive quality education must receive appropriate attention from the two ministries of Education and all progressive stakeholders.

Mr Chansa said girls and women truly deserved to receive quality education if their poverty situation was to improve.

“We are inviting all girls and women to genuinely realize the value of quality education in their lives because they are important to the development of the country,” Mr Chansa said.

He said the challenge also went to all parents to make sure that girl child education was accorded the necessary premium it deserved.

Mr Chansa said education for women and girls was vital because when the nation has educated women the levels of poverty could reduce especially in rural areas.

He said once the nation had educated women they would be a source of inspiration to the young girls by encouraging them to take education seriously.

And NAQEZ has implored all the  traditional  and  political leaders to be firm on early marriages and early pregnancies especially in rural areas.

Mr Chansa said traditional leaders and other stakeholders should always encourage girl child education because education was key to success in any environment.

“We must all act together against these very retrogressive vices if our country is serious about attaining sustainable economic growth and development,” said Mr Chansa.
