Hearing of Kambwili’s disciplinary case put off to Monday

THE disciplinary hearing by the Patriotic Front (PF) in a case in which Roan Member of Parliament  Chishimba Kambwili is alleged to have accused Luanshya mayor Nathan Chanda of practicing witchcraft has been adjourned to Monday, 16th January, 2016.

Sources from the meeting which was chaired by national chairperson Ngosa Simbyakula said the meeting was postponed due to the failure of some of the people lined up by Mr. Kambwili to testify failed to turn-up.

The sources told the Daily Nation that Mr. Chanda’s group was the first one to make statements on the alleged accusations but when it was time for Mr. Kambwili’s group to testify, the Roan parliamentarian complained that most of his [people were prevented from attending yesterday’s meeting by OP officials who threatened the owners of the buses who were scheduled to ferry them.

In order to give chance to Mr. Kambwili’s team to provide enough evidence, the disciplinary committee is said to have resolved to postpone the hearing to Monday.

“The meeting has been postponed to Monday because Mr. Kambwili felt that he was disadvantaged by the fact that most of his people did not turn up. After Mr. Chanda’s group had presented its evidence, Mr. Kambwili said his people had been prevented from travelling by some people and that is how the adjournment was arrived at to give him more time,” the source said.

When contacted for a comment, Mr. Simbyakula said it would be premature for the committee to divulge information about anything relating to the case adding that the committee wanted to be exhibit high levels of impartiality in the way it was handling the matter.

“It would be premature for us to divulge any information about today’s hearing. We want to remain as impartial as possible and so, if the two parties are willing, they can give you details of what transpired. I hope you understand what I am saying,” Mr. Simbyakula said.
