GOVERNMENT will in the next three months connect power and water to Kayombo Secondary School in Kabompo district, says North-Western Province minister Richard Kapita.

Mr. Kapita said Government was aware of the challenges pupils and teachers faced at the school which has had no running water since it was opened two years ago.

“Let me assure you that I will personaly pursue the concerns of the school by engaging relevant authorities to ensure that they address these two issues in the quickest possible time,” he said.

The provincial minister was speaking when he addressed both pupils and teachers at the school during his on-going familiarization tour of districts in the province.

He said President Lungu was concerned about the well-being of all people and was therefore eager to transform their lives.

He advised pupils to focus on school and avoid engaging in illicit activities such as sex and alcohol abuse that would disturb them from completing their education.

And Kayombo Secondary School head teacher George Sakutenda said the school, which has a population of 225 pupils, faced serious challenges of water, power and transport.

He however thanked the provincial minister for visiting the school, saying it showed Government’s commitment to attending to its needs.

The school, situated about 96 kilometers from Kabompo town, is run by the Christian Mission in Many Lands (CMML) Church under memorandum of understanding (M0U) between the church and Government.

Meanwhile, Chief Kalunga of the Luchazi speaking people said he was happy with the connection of the district to the national power grid.

The traditional leader observed that the connection of the district to the national electricity grid would transform the area economically.

He was now looking forward to seeing the power connected to his palace as promised by Government.

He said this when Mr Kapita paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Chikenge yesterday.
