THE opposition Rainbow Party says the country can only develop if the economy of the nation is run by Zambians.

The party general secretary Wynter Kabimba said the economy of the nation could only improve if the local people took centre stage in controlling its status.

Mr Kabimba said the economy of the country was mainly dominated by the foreign powers especially the international companies.

Mr Kabimba was speaking this in Kitwe during the second anniversary of the establishment of the party.

He said the multi-national companies operating in Zambia were making a lot of profits but the money was externalised to their countries of origin

Mr Kabimba said the foreign investors were only interested in making profits in Zambia at the expense of poor Zambians.

He said the Rainbow Party had planned to enhance the economic prowess of Zambia by encouraging local participation of the Zambians so that they could take a leading role in the economic recovery of the nation.

Mr Kabimba said that he did not leave the Patriotic Front (PF) because of frustrations but wanted to form a political party that would improve the economy of the nation.

He said the Rainbow party had real ideas not rhetoric because it was interested in uplifting the economic status of the nation in various aspects.

Mr Kabimba said the Rainbow had learnt a lot of mistakes during and after the 2016 August 11 general elections and it would work on them to forge ahead for the development of the nation.

He said the Rainbow party which is a socialist party would not practice socialism on the basis of theoretical arrangement but real time practice.

And national mobilisation coordinator for the party Robert Chikwelete has urged the youths to have the vision for the future by embracing progressive ideas.

Mr Chikwelete said the youths should focus on political leaders who have development plans for the nation.
