CLAN based thinking retards development agenda of any country, says Chikondi Foundation president Bishop John Mambo.

Bishop Mambo said that when institutions based their decisions on recruitment of new people in a place of work on family relationship then that country will not be able to attain its development plans.

“Nepotism refuses to look at qualification and ability and capability, it is selfish and envious,” he said

He further explained that nepotistic thinkers only wanted to see people that had a relation with them progressing and moving ahead in life but in the process it completely shatters a nation’s development efforts.

“We need to go back to the ‘One Zambia One Nation’ motto because we are one people and we should not be mixing democracy and nepotism,” he said

He said that because clan-based thinking wanted to consider an uncle, auntie, cousin and brother, it robed the country the intelligence and talent from the rest of the population.

Bishop Mambo said that there was also need for Zambia to reject corruption because many countries that were extremely successful were also among the least corrupt because all income collected in revenue was channeled towards its intended purposes.

“When a country refuses corruption it says yes to investments in good education, well equipped and structured institutions and security services,” he explained.
