THE ruling Patriotic Front is a very strong party and cannot be destabilised by some disgruntled individuals, Patriotic Front (PF) deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri has said.

Ms Phiri charged that the party was aware that some individuals had been meeting in dark corners to plan on how they would cause confusion in the party.

She was commenting on a Daily Nation expose of a new PF splinter political party calling itself “True Greens”, which has been formed and is set for registration soon.

The new party, comprised of frustrated members of the ruling party, intended to weaken the current PF structures and leadership by promoting confusion with the sole purpose of taking over the party.

Ms Phiri said the ruling party was not shaken by such individuals, stressing that the party was united and strong.

“We know that people are meeting in dark corners and it is normal in politics, but as PF we are not shaken by such because we still remain strong and cannot be destabilised by a group of some selfish individuals,” Ms Phiri said.

She added that she was not shocked with the formation of the party because it was common in

Zambian politics for people to move from one party to another.

“If they want to form another party let them go ahead, it is their democratic right. It’s a tendency in Zambia for people to change parties and we wish them well. We are very few who have only belonged to one political party since we joined politics.

“They can go ahead and form a party if they like, but let’s see where it will take them because PF is still strong and undefeatable for more years to come. The party will remain united and will not fall prey to some forces bent on fuelling divisions,” she said.
