POLICE have offered a K50 000 reward to any member of the public with information leading to the arrest of the suspected serial killer behind the recent gruesome murders of two young women in Lusaka’s Chilanga District.

Meanwhile, Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo has directed the Police to scale up patrols especially in Chilanga district over what people suspect to be a serial killer on the loose.

Zambia Police public relations officer Esther Katongo said citizens must relay any information in relation to the case to the police and that precaution must be taken by all residents of Chilanga and surrounding areas to avoid falling prey to attacks by not moving alone day or night.

And Mr Kampyongo said it was sad to receive reports of murder of innocent citizens and warned that perpetrators would not go free.

Mr Kampyongo directed police in the area to scale up patrols and security for the safety of all citizens. He appealed to the public to be security conscious and report undesirable and suspicions characters in the community to the police.

Police on Tuesday picked up the body of 22-year-old Ann Musonda, a student teacher at Makeni Islamic College of Education found with deep head cuts and body injuries, and on Thursday they picked Cecelia Mulekwa, 16, a Grade 11 at City of Hope Secondary School in Makeni
Bonaventure area.

They both went missing last Friday and were found dead in a maize field not far from their homes.

Cecelia’s body was discovered in a decomposed state with deep cuts around 10 hrs on the Chilanga quarry road. Ms Musonda’s body was found on Tuesday between Mulikita farms and Lafarge quarry road by a passer-by of Freedom compound in Chilanga.

And Lusaka Province police commissioner Nelson Phiri said it appeared the murders had been committed by the same person and seemed to be targeting female victims.

Police have ruled out rape as the motive as postmortem investigations showed no sexual
violation of either body.
