KALUMBILA district commissioner Robinson Kalota has given Solwezi Municipal Council a seven day ultimatum in which to pay back the over K1.4 million money for Kalumbila Council.

Meanwhile, the district commissioner has charged that Solwezi Municipal Council should stop intimidating the media that were revealing their illegal activities.

He said the district administration was demanding for the truth and accountability on why the local authority decided to use the funds that did not belong to them.

“Our stance still stands, we want the Council to explain where they have taken our money for Kalumbila,” he said.

He said the culprits should be brought to book for misappropriating public funds.

“Otherwise, we are giving them up to mid-March, 2017 before an official complaint is lodged with relevant security wings.

“If they are still disputing that they never misappropriated the money, let them come in the open and show us where the money has gone, and we are here to prove them wrong,” he said.

He said intimidating media houses and targeting individuals would not save the Council.

“We are in a democratic dispensation where people are free to talk whenever they see something wrong,” he added.
