Standard Chartered Bank Zambia says it remains committed to contributing to the development of sports in Zambia.

Speaking during the presentation of a K150,000 cheque to the 2017 Zambia Open organizing committee, Standard Chartered Bank Zambia head of global banking, Emmanuel Banda, said his bank valued its corporate partners.

The Zambia Open tees off in Ndola in three days’ time.

“Our support of K150,000 towards the hosting of the 2017 Zambia Open golf championship demonstrates the bank’s commitment to supporting sports in Zambia.

“This sponsorship is also testimony to the high importance we attach to our corporate partners on the Copperbelt which is a key region for the bank,” Mr Banda said.

Banda expressed confidence in the organizing committee of the 2017 Zambia Open golf championship, noting that they will be able to successfully host the championship.

“I have no doubt that the organizing committee of the championship will put on another formidable tournament and as Standard Chartered Bank, we remain firmly committed to helping Zambia improve in many sectors and not just sport alone because Zambia is one of the top African markets for the Standard Chartered Bank Group,” Banda said.

And 2017 Zambia Open organizing committee chairperson Emmanuel Mutati expressed delight at the bank’s commitment in contributing to the development of golf in the country.

Mutati said the banks’ K150,000 sponsorship will contribute to the successful hosting of this year’s Zambia Open championship to be held in Ndola.

“The hosting of a championship such as the Zambia open golf championship requires a lot of finances therefore we are very grateful to standard chartered bank for pledging to support us,” Mutati said.

And Mutati says the organizing committee is ready to host this year’s championship, having managed to raise the required US$380,000 budget.

“We are glad that we have been able to meet our budget which is US$380,000. The standard (of play) will be high this time around as the winner will walk away with K220,000.

“The tournament has attracted 144 golfers from across the Southern African region and this will be an opportunity for local golfers to compete with professional golfers,” Mutati said.

The 2017 Zambia Open golf championship tees off on May 30 with more than 140 golfers
confirming participation.
