THE opposition United Progressive People’s applauds President Edgar Lungu for the courage to present a fairly true state of affairs in our nation, says party president Saviour Chishimba.

Dr. Chishimba noted that the nation appeared more divided than before saying the culture as well as the polarisation and regionalism which characterised the last election had continued to fuel politics of hatred and prejudice.

Commenting on President Lungu’s recent national address in Parliament, he observed that a sense of patriotism had been lost in politics and that the situation could not be entirely be blamed on the PF saying the opposition had contributed to the destruction of national identity and the foundation of unity.

The UPP leader said that opposition politics were not about sabotaging every well intended national building forum and affirmed that his party fully supported the call for national unity, patriotism, upholding Christian and national, values, the rule of law and the fight against corruption.

“We commend President Edgar Chagwa Lungu for the courage to present a fairly true state of affairs in our nation,” he said.

He appealed to the Government to focus on an economic recovery programme that would accelerate job creation and the growth of the country’s Gross Domestic Product.

Dr. Chishimba said that the country’s founding fathers would have died in vain if the opposition chose not to rise above pettiness for a higher calling to serve mankind.

He said that the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation was not a mere slogan but a way of life and that there was need to seek biblical correctness unlike the political aspect sating that biblical principles on socio-economic and justice were supposed to surpass   and aim at dignifying all citizens and foreigners who had settled in the country.

Dr Chishimba challenged the PF to focus on its electoral promises of lower taxes, more jobs and more money in people’s pockets saying it was achievable but that it required immediate action.
